JUN 15 · Palette Poetry’s Sappho Prize for Women Poets closes June 15. A contest for women poets that awards $3000 to the winner, along with publication and a brief interview in Palette Poetry. JUN 15 · Eye to the Telescope 49, a publication of the Science Fiction and Fantasy Poetry Association calls for submissions of 1–3 unpublished poems in English. Edited by Tony Daly, the theme is “trauma.” Accepted poems will be paid for at the following rate: US 4¢/word rounded up to nearest dollar; minimum US $4, maximum $25. Payment is on publication. The SFPA normally uses PayPal to pay poets, but can also send checks. Eye to the Telescope is an online publication. JUN 15 · The Crystal Lake Academy’s latest workshop, The Author’s Journey: Poetry! Experienced poets Colleen Anderson, Maxwell I. Gold, Angela Yuriko Smith and Jamal Hodge will guide your poetry writing journey for three months from June 15th to September 7th, working together to enhance your craft and prepare a poem for publication. JUN 15 · The deadline is June 15 for entries for each year’s $5,000 Narrative Prize for the best short story, novel excerpt, poem, one-act play, graphic story, or work of literary nonfiction published by a new or emerging writer in Narrative. The prize is announced each September and is given to the best work published each year in Narrative by a new or emerging writer, as judged by the magazine’s editors. In some years, the prize may be divided between winners, when more than one work merits the award. JUN 30 · Submissions close for Alone on the Borderland: Tales of Edwardian Dread, an anthology of new weird and strange fiction set between 1901 and 1919 – from the death of Queen Victoria to the immediate aftermath of the Great War and the Spanish Influenza epidemic. Stories should be between 5,000 and 10,000 words. Authors shall receive a percentage of the Kickstarter net profits, a percentage of first year royalties (percentage determined by number of contributing authors), and a paperback copy of the anthology.
